Rachael is a multidisciplinary artist completing an AHRC-UKRI-funded art practice-led PhD with 3D3 at the University of Plymouth, UK.

Thesis Title: Above and Below the Horizon: A Practice-led Investigation into Liminal Thresholds of Bodies of Water.
Supervisory team Dr Kayla Parker, Emeritus Professor Liz Wells and Associate Professor Dr Heidi Morstang.

Her practice-led research is made through a rigorous investigation and embodied phenomenological exploration of site, using artist residency (in various coastal and riverine locations including, the UK, South Africa, the Svalbard Archipelago and Finland) as methodology. Moving above and below the horizon, she explores liminal spaces and places between the edges of the land and bodies of water, working with art and science to reveal invisible realms of our visible world. Materials include analogue and digital film, expanded notions of photography, optical devices (within and beyond the electromagnetic field of vision), microscopic imaging, light, projection, ephemera, sound, text, water and scientific data.
